Subject. The dynamics and cross-country structure of scientific publications on artificial intelligence, their institutional financing, as well as patent activity in the largest economies of the world. Objectives. Analysis of scientific activity in the field of artificial intelligence by country, identification of the main trends, confirmation of the relevance of research data and identification of the countries that are most actively forming the applied technological reserve. Methods. The methods of bibliometric analysis were used. To assess the level of involvement of institutional funds and corporations in research activities, the metric "share of funded publications" was introduced and calculated. The hypothesis was tested using three indicators: publication dynamics, the share of funded research, and patent conversion. Results. A steady upward trend in the number of publications on artificial intelligence in the world has been revealed, which indicates the high relevance of the topic. The analysis of publication activity showed that the leaders in the number of articles in peer-reviewed journals for 2020-2024 are China, the USA and India. Russia ranks 12th. Special attention is paid to the financing of research in the real sector of the economy. The "share of funded publications" metric demonstrates a high level of interest from institutional funds and corporations, especially in China and the United States. The quality of research activities is assessed through patent activity. The leaders in the number of patents for 2015-2020 are China, the USA and the Republic of Korea. Conclusions. The number of publications serves as an indicator of scientific activity; competitive advantage in the economy depends on the quality of the institutional framework for innovation. The results obtained make it possible to identify China and the United States as the countries with the most intensive government policy in the field of artificial intelligence, which is reflected in high rates in all areas considered and forms a solid foundation for technological sovereignty.
