Subject. Features of the development of the transport system in the regions of the Far East. Objectives. To identify trends in the development of the transport system in the regions of the Far Eastern Federal District. Methods. The study was conducted using methods of systematic and comparative analysis, grouping, and integrated assessment techniques. Results. The main approaches to the assessment of the regional transport system are investigated. To calculate a comprehensive indicator of the state of the region's transport system, a reasonable system of five blocks of indicators is proposed that characterize the transport security of the territory, the transport mobility of the population, the availability of transport services, safety and quality, as well as the economic importance of the transport system for the regional economy. Evaluation criteria are proposed and the regions of the Far East are grouped according to the level of development of the transport system. According to the level of development of the transport system, the Far East is quite homogeneous. The Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and the Magadan Oblast were included in the group with a low level of development. In other regions of the district, the level of development of the transport system is average. Conclusions. A comprehensive assessment of the transport system in the regions of the Far East, performed using a set of indicators characterizing various aspects of the industry's development, revealed significant differences between them in terms of transport security, transport mobility of the population and the importance of the industry for the region's economy. The main problems of the socioeconomic development of the Far East include the low level of their transport security and mobility of the population, and the discrepancy between the state of the transport infrastructure and the needs of the regions.
