Subject. The article considers the formation of the space logistics ecosystem. Objectives. The aim is to describe the ways of developing the rocket and space technology, searching and attracting funds from private investors for the space logistics ecosystem and the commercial segment of space services. Methods. To explore the process of space logistics system formation, we use the structural analysis of segments and conditions of use, which are the necessary basis for the study. The analysis of the small upper stage market rests on in-depth analysis of various approaches used in the economy of space activities. Results. The paper offers an approach to substantiating the use of small upper stages in the space logistics ecosystem, highlights prospects for this technology development, proposes approaches to ensure the consistency of the process of evaluating and analyzing the small upper stage market segments to solve various problems. We proved that the segments of the space logistics ecosystem determine the main trends in the development of commercial space technologies, therefore, affect the demand for particular technology. Conclusions. Services provided by small upper stages can be divided into two groups: with short and prolonged life cycles. The costs of such services may be taken into account depending on the product life cycle.
