Subject The article addresses the current state of digital economy of the Russian Federation.
Objectives We consider the development of digital economy as one of priorities for Russia. The digital economy is considered to be a new basis for the development of various spheres of society, including public administration, therefore is a need for systemic and deep understanding of the phenomenon.
Methods We apply methods of economic and statistical analysis, and the SWOT analysis.
Results The paper reviews the state-of-the-art in Russia’s digital economy and the share of Russia's digital sector in the global economy. We analyzed trends in indicators of digital economy development in the Russian Federation, and performed a SWOT analysis of Russian industry in the digital age.
Conclusions The contribution of digital sector to the economy of our country is rather small in comparison with developed countries. The Russian Federation has a high potential to achieve a high level of its digital economy, however, there are challenges and threats that should be addressed.
