Subject The article considers living standards of the population. This socio-economic category is rather complex and requires special attention in the process of investigation.
Objectives The purpose of the study is to analyze the life quality of individuals in the Tambov Oblast through statistical methods.
Methods We employ methods of comparative analysis, rating techniques, economic and statistical methods.
Results We consider main indicators of people's living standards in the Tambov Oblast, rank and compare the regions of the Central Federal District to determine the position of the Tambov Oblast in terms of the life quality of its population. We also calculated the variance and forms of distribution of per capita income, average monthly wage, and awarded pensions over 2017 for regions of the Central Federal District. The paper presents the structure and assessment of household income differentiation in the Tambov Oblast.
Conclusions The living standards in the Tambov Oblast are lower than in other regions of the Central Federal District. There is a noticeable difference in household incomes, average wages and pensions. Furthermore, the Tambov Oblast shows a high proportion of people's expenditure on food and paid services of mandatory nature.
