Subject The article addresses the economic efficiency of a commercially viable regional sanatorium and resort complex.
Objectives The purpose is to define a concept of competitiveness of sanatorium-resort complexes and introduce evaluation criteria, to review existing methods of competitiveness evaluation and create our own system from the perspective of meeting the potential demand of sanatorium-resort services consumers.
Methods The study rests on the analysis of scientific works on economics, marketing and sanatorium-resort activity arrangement. We performed a statistical analysis of data characterizing the condition of sanatorium and resort complexes of the Perm Krai and leading sanatoriums and resorts of Russia.
Results We expand the theory and methodology, offer our own system of competitiveness assessment, which includes the use of SNW analysis, classification of factors of competitiveness by five significant groups, coefficient analysis of competitiveness level from the standpoint of meeting the potential demand of consumers.
Conclusions Our research can be used as a theoretical and methodological framework for program-based planning of sanatorium-resort complex development in regions.
