Importance Strategic management tends to shift control from individual companies to groups, as strategic competitive advantage of groups and their affiliates can be derived from synergies. Therefore, the tools to support management decisions related to consolidation processes are particularly important in modern strategic management concepts. Objectives The purpose of the study is to identify strategic features of consolidated processes management in groups of companies based on decomposition of synergistic effect and development of tools to support management decisions. Methods The paper draws on the systems approach, theoretical studies of specialists in strategic management, methods of economic and mathematical modeling. Results To understand the advantages of synergies, we applied decomposition and subsequent synthesis, which was embodied in the Synergy Tree. We analyzed strategic strengths of corporate groups resulted from increased control over market, access to resources, sales outlets and expansion into new markets. Based on identified relations between synergies and lines of development, we offer graphical and mathematical methodologies for monitoring the integration of the group and defining the activities to be implemented to enhance synergies. Conclusions The approach to decomposition of the synergistic effect, the method of consolidation process monitoring and other supporting tools may assist management decision-making on consolidated processes in groups of companies.
