Subject The article studies a set of functions of the management of complex multilevel economic, organizational and technological structures, the practical application of widely used ways, means and methods of their measurement, and analysis of their condition. Objectives The major objectives of the paper are to analyze and assess the condition of complex organizational systems, formulate and discuss certain myths of management that are universal and apply to any multi-purpose organizational objects and processes. Methods The study rests on an empirical (verbal) analysis of practice and experience in organizational structure management, the method of contrastive analysis of situations in the economy from the perspective of the science-based approach and the utilitarian view. Results We have formulated the most popular and persistent myths of management, considered requirements to innovative measurement of social processes. The paper shows that measuring and analytical functions do not extend to certain categories of economically active population and activities, therefore, the meaning and quality of any human activity are distorted. Conclusions The measuring technology in the modern economy should be maximally correct, unified, scientifically well-founded, independent, cross-cutting and universal.
