Importance Development of investment activity in agribusiness is characterized by instability, contradictory legal framework, absence of a mechanism to manage the investment market and consistency in applying methodological tools to assess investment processes. There is a need to investigate possible increase in the volume and performance of investment. Objectives The study's objective is to review investing activities in the agro-industrial complex of the Stavropol Krai and evaluate implemented investment projects to unveil factors impacting the investment appeal of the agrarian region. Methods The study rests on systematization and analysis of theoretical and methodological tenets and information materials of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Stavropol Krai, the Federal State Statistics Service, works of domestic scientists and researchers on problems related to investment activity assessment in the regional agro-industrial complex. Results We reviewed factors, trends, methods and mechanisms of investment activity regulation that shape and determine the investment activity of regional agriculture. The paper evaluates the level of investment appeal of the Stavropol Krai's agribusiness. Conclusions Investment activity development in the agricultural sector, both in Russia as a whole and in its regions is especially important during the crisis. The paper highlights major challenges to the sector under sanctions, considers basic methods and indicators helping to choose the most efficient areas of investment. The findings may be useful for the Ministry of Agriculture of the Stavropol Krai to produce ratings of investment attractiveness in the agricultural sector and specify the elements of the sector's investment and innovation infrastructure.
