Importance At the present stage, the condition of hotel services markets is an important component of enhancing the social and economic activity of regions. The study considers challenges and development prospects for the regional markets of hotel services.
Objectives The aim is to analyze economic relations and processes in hotel services markets using the case of Nizhny Novgorod regions, which are actively developing due to forthcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.
Methods Using general and logical methods of scientific literature research, marketing agency reports, statistical data and the results of our own marketing research, we revealed tendencies, problems and development prospects for regional markets of hotel services.
Results We analyzed the hotel services markets in Russia and abroad. The paper presents the results of the comparative analysis of hotel accommodation availability in Russian regions as compared to Moscow, St. Petersburg and European cities, identifies customer preferences when choosing a hotel, and problems tourists face when visiting Nizhny Novgorod. We also performed a comparative analysis of the condition of hotel markets in Russia and China.
Conclusions We conclude that Russian hotel services markets are substantially lagging behind those ones of developed countries. Regional markets are developing heterogeneously. There is a positive impact of international operators on the development of the Russian hotel market.
