Importance Challenges of the Russian industrial development cause special attention to the new organizational and economic forms to manage the industry sector. Therefore, the importance of industrial clustering is growing. Objectives The objective of the research is to provide the general assessment of the efficiency of clustering of the Russian industry subject to regional and industry specifics. Methods Major methods of the analysis include statistical data grouping by the criteria of territories, branches, innovation of production, employee performance, number of organizations and jobs. Results The obtained results demonstrate active development of the clustering process during recent years. The clustering aims at the association of small, medium-sized and large enterprises within the implementation of specific research and production chains. The association, to some extent, achieves the synergetic effects that provide an increase in economic efficiency and performance of each enterprise due to a high degree of concentration and cooperation, geographical and industry flexibility, as well as due to the innovative activity of enterprises affiliated with clusters. Conclusions and RelevanceIt is expedient to strengthen the support to vertical industrial clusters, which incorporate manufacturing facilities operating in similar industries, and integrated enterprises engaged in related business. In such organizational and economic space, the State can and has to play a key functional role in reproduction processes via the public-private partnership mechanism.
