Formation and dynamic operation of the competitive market and the agro-food processing industry are the main activities of the State in the near future. Demand for food is one of the most specific, and its structure depends on the level of economic development and national peculiarities of public consumption. A distinctive feature of the sugar market is the lack of administrative barriers to the import and export of goods and other obstacles to movement within the borders of the Russian Federation, as well as the lack of technology and transportation barriers. The positive trend in domestic sugar beet cultivation sector showed a gradual exit from the crisis, enhancing the competitiveness of domestic production of sugar beet. The article examines the dynamics of exports, imports and prices of raw sugar and white sugar from the countries of near and far abroad. The author notes that there has been a tendency to reduce imports of white sugar and raw sugar, which significantly strengthens the position of the Russian Federation in terms of food security, i.e. strategic product - sugar. Russia has greatly increased its capacity in terms of the production of sugar from domestic raw materials, thereby ensuring in 2011 the food security of the country far exceeding 80%. Sugar trade is a priority of Russia's foreign economic activities, affecting the food security of the country.
