Importance An innovation-breakthrough scenario of the development of the Russian economy makes relevant the problem of development and maintenance of the machine-building industry. Financial sustainability is one of the aspects of an economic entity's stability. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the financial strength factors of the enterprise, identify negative trends. Objectives The aim of the study is to convert traditional formulas for calculating financial ratios in the deterministic factor model of combined type due to the detail of complex factors, as well as to adjust the general model for the specific activity of the enterprises of machine-building industry. Methods To model a factor system, we extended a multiple factor model of financial dependence by the detail of the numerator and denominator. Using the method of chain substitution, we have analyzed the status and debt-to-equity capital ratios of businesses. Results We studied the influence of the factors on the financial stability of the enterprise, identified the causes of the loss of financial strength of the objects of research, and the areas for overcoming them. The company is under the watchful eye of a large range of actors in the market, with an interest in the results of its operations. A detailed study of the financial performance of a business entity parameters helps to determine the quality of the company's assets, the balance of own and borrowed capital financing sources, that becomes possible in the study of the cause-effect relationships between factors and effective measure. The factor model of financial dependence of the enterprise can also be changed under the conditions of operation of other business entities. Conclusions and Relevance We have developed factor analysis models of financial dependence in view of specificity of activity of the enterprise, on the basis of which we have analyzed the financial strength of the machine-building enterprises; we are presenting certain conclusions and the development tendencies.
