The article describes the basic reasons for implementing controlling in enterprises. The research work estimates the need for quality information support of a controlling system. The article defines controlling, as the basis of both the information and analytical support systems of enterprise management. The paper describes a process of converting data into information and knowledge on the basis of three levels of information processing. The article presents a scheme of formation of primary information space to support controlling systems. The author considers the quantitative characteristics of information associated with the media type and the way of presenting information, semantic content and usefulness for the purpose stated. The author presents the basic qualitative characteristics of information affecting the timeliness and accuracy of management decisions.
