Despite the significant progress in improving the core technologies of the new technological order, a cluster of alternative energy technologies yet slowly enters the daily human activities. In Russia, the renewable energy technologies remain often outside the major energy projects, although most experts mark their significant potential for use in both the industrial and residential sectors. In this paper autors check for validity the hypothesis that one of the factors, which slow down the diffusion of new technologies in the field of energy conservation and alternative energy, is the existence of so-called information barriers. These barriers show up as a lack of reliable information about new technologies, available for mass use in the residential and commercial sectors.

Keywords: energy efficiency, technology diffusion, barrier, environment awareness, information source, survey, nonparametric statistics
