The author gives the most essential reasons for innovation activities at the microeconomic level. He considers the international and Russian approaches to determining the nature and the content of innovation activities. The article presents the author's grounds for the basic functions of innovation-activities management and his definitions of the concepts of "innovation-activities management" and "innovation management". It also shows the specific functional areas of innovation management in present-day organizations.
