In the article issues of transformation of structure of economy of the North region, new approaches to regional economic policy in South Yakutia are considered. The conducted researches allow concluding that the natural and resource sector of economy of the region has to be a source of the long-term balanced social and economic development, providing reproduction of the natural and human capital of territories. This trend is of particular importance due to the fact that the formation of a competitive economy requires the development of regional industry clusters.
