In the article a critical review of foreign and Russian experience of regional development with the use of strategic planning is made. Domestic experience of regional strategic planning is chaotic and doesn't high degree of coherence of its elements and performers. The principles of new regional policy have to be developed according to account the theoretic-methodological device of the concept of a sustainable development, spatial planning and development, corporate strategic planning taking into account realities of regional development of the Russian Federation.
