In the article the approaches to definition of essence of innovative potential are considered, the author's treatment of the concept "innovative potential of national economy" is given, the system of indicators of innovative potential is defined, and the indicator of innovative potential developed by the author allowing tracing dynamics of changes in the considered sphere is presented.
