The article discusses the essence, value and functions of peasant farmsteads, their place in the livelihood of the rural population of the Republic of Belarus, the terms of reference, the nature of employment, resource potential, type of households, their interaction with the public production, with the general state of the economy of the country. The problems affecting the development of households, their effectiveness are shown.
