Economic crises revealed inability of retailers to act efficiently. Credit crunch and hard competition made most of retailers forget about ambitious development plans and survive. In the circumstances retailers should concentrate on raising efficiency, but absence of complex hypermarket analyses makes working out of optimization program impossible. The article touches upon complex assessment of hypermarket and kea competences, which should be developed by retailers to succeed.
