The article represents the study of insolvency criterion for different types of debtors from the historical position and foreign experience in the connection with the sources of debt payment. Bankruptcy criterion for companies can be based either on cash flows or balance sheet terms. Personal, municipal and sovereign insolvency can only be determined by correlation of cash flows.
