Importance The article examines types of conflicts and wars, which always arise, transform and advance during the globalization of the economy. Objectives The research analyzes the existing varieties of contemporary conflicts and wars, identifies their specifics, causes and financial and economic results their organizers pursue. Methods We applied historiographical methods, economic analysis for the military sector and systems analysis. Results Focusing on the specifics of contemporary warfare, we show that aggressive goals can be achieved without weapons, military and special equipment. Foreign territories can be occupied and plundered through non-military confrontation and financial, economic, information and other methods of warfare, in particular. Conclusions and Relevance There is a need for contemporary framework of categories, methodology and the theory of conflict and confrontation science in relation to financial, economic and other types of non-conventional wars. There should be a special system for training of professionals, who would be able to win financial, economic and other non-lethal wars. The findings can be used by State servants and military specialists who deal with issues of national and military security, specialists of education institutions and research and development organizations who tackle organizational issues of countering conventional and network wars.
