Importance The article deals with the issues of development of a strategy to increase the sustainability of regional development and the mechanism of its implementation. Objectives The article aims to study the competitive advantages of the regional system and develop a methodological approach to the evaluation and prediction of the stability of its socio-economic development. Methods This work uses the econometric methods to assess and predict the sustainability of the region's development, taking into account the major socio-economic factors. Results We have conducted a comprehensive assessment of the sustainability of socio-economic development of the Russian Federation subjects, using econometric modelling, and developed a methodological approach to forecasting of the main indicators of sustainable development of regional systems and justification of managerial decisions. Relevance The results of the study allow the use of the developed model for evaluation, comparative analysis and forecasting of the level of development sustainability of regional systems.
