Importance Financial security of priority development economic systems is primarily related to the formation of areas of priority social and economic development in the Russian Federation. During the recent two years, the problems of financial and economic security of these areas, analysis of the efficiency of their financial sustainability, creating a methodology to assess the components of financial security have become extremely urgent. Objectives The aim of the research is to develop a methodology to analyze and assess the financial security of economic systems of priority development. Methods The study employs logical, economic and statistical, economic and mathematical analyses, and probabilistic methods of expert estimates. Results The paper analyzes major criteria and factors that are necessary for the efficient realization of financial security of priority development territories. They include an assessment of risks of financial and economic security, competitive advantages of priority development territories, econometric modeling, etc. I propose a technique enabling to assess risks at the stage of financial planning of innovative business processes of the priority development area. The results can be applied in the assessment of financial sustainability of enterprises located in priority development territories at both the regional and national levels. Conclusions To enhance the financial and economic security of enterprises operating in priority development territories, it is important to monitor financial risks and the ability of these enterprises to react to internal and external factors impacting their financial and economic security.
