In the article evolution of money concepts in economics is examined. Peculiarities of money functions and monetary mechanisms in different schools of economic thought, such as mercantilism, classical and neoclassical school, Keynesian school and its modern interpretations, institutionalism, neo-Austrian school, are analysed. Connection between economical, psychological and sociological approaches to money research as socio-economic phenomenon is considered in conclusion.
