Subject. We investigate the impact of economic development of the region on the level and quality of life of the population. Objectives. The study aims to assess the state and life quality of the population as the most important strategic task of regional development. Methods. The study draws on methods of statistical analysis. Results. We considered the main indicators of the level and life quality of the population of the Kaliningrad Oblast from 2016 to 2020. The findings show that the minimum wage, average monthly nominal wage, average amount of accrued pensions, subsistence minimum and other indicators demonstrate steady growth by 2021. At the same time, the unemployment rate has increased, especially during the pandemic period, the number of doctors per 10,000 people has decreased, and life expectancy has declined. In general, the analysis revealed the areas requiring greater attention of regional authorities to improve the level and quality of life of the population. Conclusions. The Kaliningrad Oblast falls behind plans. This was especially evident in 2020, against the background of the pandemic situation in the region. Nevertheless, there is a fairly stable migration growth in the region, enabling to conclude on the region’s attractiveness for living.
