Importance Assessing the institutional parameters of social and economic systems is one of the most difficult and debatable problems from the perspective of theory and methodology. In most cases, the institutional component of social and economic systems is assessed intuitively, and as a rule, calculations are rather conventional.
Objectives The aim of the study is to determine the possibility of quantitative measurement of institutional characteristics of social and economic systems under methods of economic analysis, and to test the methodology on the case of Russian regions.
Methods We offer a unique option to assess the institutional parameters of social and economic systems. It enables to compare the type of economic behavior from the perspective of hedonism and asceticism. The article presents quantitative characteristics of institutional parameters in the country's regions for 2000-2013 based on the economic analysis.
Results The findings reveal interrelations between institutional parameters of regions (as model social and economic systems) and the value added per capita.
Conclusions The analysis demonstrates quantitative indices characterizing the interrelation of the hedonistic and ascetic culture with value production. The type of multiple regression equations show that under modern Russian conditions the ascetic type of economic culture provides for a higher volume of value added per capita in regions.

Journal: Financial Analytics: Science and Experience, #23, 2016

Importance In this article, I review the manual on Corporate Economics by Nikolai P. Lyubushin and Nadezhda E. Babicheva in terms of its contribution to economics as a whole and its relevance for educational purposes in higher school.
Objectives This article overviews the contents of the manual, examines methodological approaches to narrating the material. The article also provides an adequate evaluation of the manual in terms of training in Economics, Management and its compliance with educational programs of the Federal State standards of higher education of the third generation (FGOS VO 3+).
Methods The methodology relies upon a dialectical method based on systems and comprehensive approaches.
Results I found what critically distinguished the authors' approach to the manual. They combined fundamental theoretical clauses with exact algorithms of computations, as opposed to most manuals and guides on corporate economics. The manual is permeated with graphical materials and statistical data that effectively supplement the text. The narration descends from general to specific aspects, thus allowing to specify economic issues in subsequent sections.
Conclusions and Relevance The language of the manual is legible and understandable, complying with FGOS VO 3+ and being acceptable for students' training. The authors' approach to the theory narration helps to understand and master the material and expand students' views, thus avoiding imperative perception of economy and prepare students for future work in this area.

Journal: Economic Analysis: Theory and Practice, #7, 2016

Importance The peer-reviewed textbook by N.P. Lyubushin and N.E. Babicheva "Economics of the organization" is considered in terms of its contribution to the economic science in general and its relevance in the teaching process of higher educational institutions.
Objectives The purposes of the article are to overview the contents of the textbook, to consider methodological approaches to the presentation of the material, to give an adequate assessment of the textbook from the perspective of teaching of such disciplines as Economics, Management, and of its compliance with the Federal State Education Standard of Higher Education of a new generation (FSES of HE 3+).
Methods The research methodology draws upon the dialectical method of cognition, which is based on systems and integrated approaches.
Results The article highlights fundamental differences of the authors' approach to writing the textbook. In particular, unlike most of textbooks and manuals on economics of the organization, it combines theoretical tenets with streamlined computation algorithms. The textbook is illustrated with graphical materials and statistical data that complement the text. Furthermore, it is well structured, the material is presented from the general to the special, thus allowing the readers to specify economic problems as they proceed to next section.
Conclusions The textbook is written in plain language, it complies with the FSES of HE 3+ requirements. The authors' approach to theory presentation facilitates the students' assimilation of the training material and expands their interests. This will help avoid the dogmatic perception of economic operations and be prepared for practical activities.

Importance The problem of building and developing the social functions of business under modern conditions is one of the most significant ones in terms of theory and practice. The general direction of social and economic relations development in the modern society depends on this problem solution.
Objectives The study aims at detecting spatial and functional features of implementing the social functions of business in modern Russia.
Methods We offer a unique version of social functions of business, which cover not only relations between social groups in the sphere of value production and distribution, but also in the sphere of education, innovative activity, and income capitalization. We show the development of social functions of business in the country's regions over 2000-2013 based on the economic analysis.
Results The research has revealed spatial and functional features of developing the social functions of business in Russian regions, strengths and weaknesses of business socialization in the virtual clusters of social and economic space of the country.
Conclusions and Relevance We distinguish five virtual clusters in the country, which differ by original combination of social functions of business. The most developed Cluster A is described as comprehensively advanced, economical, focused on attracting the required quality labor, replacement of fixed assets, and not inclined to speculative capitalization of income. The last in the list is Cluster E. It focuses on generating income from property and income capitalization.
