Subject Improving the quality of life necessitates a system of indicators for its evaluation, which requires identifying the reasons for differentiation of constituent entities by living standards and developing the tools to neutralize threats in the socio-economic sphere.
Objectives The aim is to investigate imbalances in the quality of life in different regions to define strategic directions of territory development.
Methods Using the methods of applied statistics and cluster analysis, we investigate various aspects of satisfaction of needs and assessment of living standards in regions. Tabular and graphical methods enable to visualize statistical data. The method of principal components is used to group the data by designated blocks of indicators. We employ Excel and IBM SPSS Statistics application software products to perform calculations, process and evaluate the information we use.
Results On the basis of the Rosstat data, we assess the quality of life of the population in Russian regions, using the indicators for satisfaction of needs at different levels. The paper presents a portrait of clusters for each block of indicators and a dendrogram showing the distribution of regions by the quality of life.
Conclusions The characteristic features of clusters by the quality of life enable grouping the regions by deviation from average indicators across Russia. The findings may help take management decisions aimed at reducing the asymmetry in the living standards of the population and improving the socio-demographic situation in Russian regions.

Spiridonov E.E. AO KPMG, Krasnoyarsk, Russian Federation ( evgeniy_sp@bk.ru )

Journal: Finance and Credit, #17, 2016

Importance The article considers opportunities and challenges of market risk management in the real sector of the Russian economy through hedging. Impossibility to find a tool to compensate risk forces investors to look for other ways of risk management, and stock exchanges lose an opportunity for growth due to the presence of hedgers.
Objectives The aim is to find ways to use hedging in the non-financial sector of the Russian economy, to study theoretical background of applying financial instruments for market risk reduction under conditions of limited choice.
Methods The portfolio hedging is a method to overcome the existing limitation. Developed mathematical tools in the regression analysis enables to create a portfolio of assets for effective management of market risk.
Results The paper presents a synthetic instrument capable to offset a significant portion of price risk. The achieved results show a high efficiency and wide scope of application of the portfolio approach in financial risk management. The designed hedging portfolio will significantly enhance the key indicator of the hedging instrument.
Relevance The portfolio hedging has no industry boundaries and can be successfully applied in any fields of activity. The method may also be applied in areas other than risk management, such as arbitrage trading on stock exchange. Distribution of the statistical analysis software makes this type of analysis accessible to all.

Yankina I.A. Siberian Federal University, Krasnoyarsk, Russian Federation ( yankina_ia@mail.ru )

Spiridonov E.E. Siberian Federal University, Krasnoyarsk, Russian Federation ( evgeniy_sp@bk.ru )

Journal: Finance and Credit, #44, 2014

The article emphasizes that adequate risk management is not only a means for increasing economic efficiency of companies, but it also provides for their operations in the market in general. The easiest way to limit or eliminate market risk is using derivative financial instruments. Elementary derivative contracts are in the group of the so-called linear derivatives, i.e. forwards, futures and swaps. More complex derivatives, such as options, are conditional in payment, which is a nonlinear function of the underlying asset. These assets are flexible to use, and their combination can create a desirable profile of investor's return. Not every exchange-traded instrument can be eligible for hedging. In addition to necessary correlation relationships to satisfy hedger's needs, the exchange market has to provide a sufficient number of required assets to implement an exchange transaction. Due to non-availability of necessary volumes of exchange assets, some hedging strategies can be subject to rejection even if theoretically they are capable to ensure desirable level of protection against risks. The authors have investigated economic feasibility of applying futures for procurement activities hedging at the enterprises of non-financial sector. In the modern world any instrument protecting against risks has a price. Based on the price to method efficiency ratio, a specific risk management method is chosen. To find out the degree of reliability of the applied protection and its efficiency it is necessary to make a statistical analysis of the studied indicators. The scope of the considered method has no distinct boundaries. Dynamic development of hedging instruments enables to use it in various sectors of economy.
