Creditworthiness and credit risk in bank risk-management

In the presented article, assessment of creditworthiness, which is carried out by means of assignment of a credit rating, is considered as the initial stage of credit risk-management in banking. Two methods of credit risk-management – reservation and limitation are strictly connected with the level of creditworthiness.


Assessment of the financial position of insurance companies in the bank's pledge activities

Subject The article examines the issues of assessing the financial position of insurance companies in the bank's credit process.
Objectives The article aims to draw up a methodology adapted for use by a commercial bank and integrated into the banking credit process.
Methods For the study, I used the methods of logical analysis, coefficient method, and the MDA method.
Results The article presents a set of requirements for insurance companies as insurers of collateral assets, as well as the procedure for assessing their financial situation. It also offers a system of indicators for assessing the financial condition of the insurance company, which results in a credit analyst receiving a final assessment of the financial position of the insurance company with uniform characteristics, on the basis of which the bank can make managerial decisions.
Conclusions and Relevance The structured method of assessing the financial position of an insurance company can be integrated into the bank's credit process at the stage of mortgage registration. The results obtained can be used by credit analysts of commercial banks in the process of credit underwriting and preparation of credit memorandums.

Subject Adequate evaluation of a bank branch efficiency enables to make managerial decisions on the branch network transformation and maintain routine procedures for employee incentive programs. The information at the bank branch level is usually confidential and therefore, is difficult to access. There is a lack of research at this disaggregated level.
Objectives The article aims to draw up a methodology adapted for commercial banks, and to integrate it into the corporate governance processes.
Methods The study employs methods of logical analysis, structuring, and the EVA method. We used the results of works by foreign and Russian scholars on bank branch performance evaluation.
Results The article presents a review of practical methods of bank branch performance evaluation applied in the international and domestic banking business. It offers a methodology for evaluating the efficiency of a bank branch based on the economic value added method, which is adapted to the Russian banking practice.
Conclusions and Relevance It is possible to integrate the said methodology into corporate governance in banks and to apply it while taking managerial decisions.
