Subject. Digital transformation of regional economic systems in the context of the transition to the sixth technological paradigm and the formation of Industry 4.0. Objectives. Development of an improved system of indicators to assess the level of digitalization of the regional economic system. Methods. Comparative, correlational-regression analyses. Results. It has been found that the digitalization processes of regional economies in the regions of the Volga Federal District are developing very unevenly, and a large amount of resources at the 'input' doesn't always mean high results at the 'output'. Conclusions. Nowadays, the factor of digitalization is becoming important in terms of boosting the competitiveness of economic systems, including at the regional level.
