Subject. This article discusses the issues of population health and preserving labor resources. Objectives. The article aims to assess the socioeconomic consequences caused by the spread of various forms of disability. Methods. For the study, we used correlation-and-regression, and comparative analyses. Results. The Human Development Index in the Omsk Oblast and in Russia as a whole shows a trend towards decline, which is due to rising mortality and worsening health of the population. Conclusions. The results of the study can be used when developing healthcare strategies, as well as measures aimed at improving the economic activity of the population.
