Subject. This article discusses the issues related to spatial development of the the Russian Federation areas, depopulation, and uneven distribution of the population.
Objectives. The article aims to assess the impact of the key investment projects implementation on the main indicators of spatial development of the territory, and primarily on population size.
Methods. For the study, we used statistical methods for processing economic data and the adapted Lowry model.
Results. The article justifies the need to reduce spatial inequality through the optimization of the economic and settlement system.
Conclusions. The study's results can be used to forecast and plan territorial development at the municipal, regional, and national levels.
