Subject. This article discusses the issues of interregional inequality and implementation of the potential for cross-border cooperation.
Objectives. The article aims to analyze Brazil's policies focused on supporting lagging regions, most of which are the border areas.
Methods. For the study, I used the statistical analysis and cartographic methods.
Results. The article finds that Brazil's policy towards border territories is of interest to Russia, since both the countries are similar regarding the conditions of formation and nature of interregional inequality. The article highlights the shortcomings of the neoliberal approach to solving the economic problems of the regions.
Conclusions. The greatest economic effect comes from measures that influence the economic, infrastructural, and institutional development of border areas both in the country in question and in the neighboring state.
