Subject. This article discusses the importance of domestic tourism for the development of the Russian economy.
Objectives. The article aims to identify the main problems that impede the realization of the tourism and recreation industry potential in the context of digitalization.
Methods. For the study, I used the methods of systems, statistical, and logical analyses.
Results. The article identifies and highlights certain problems of tourism infrastructure’s development in some regions of Russia.
Conclusions. The cluster approach to the development of tourism can help accumulate resources and potentials of neighboring regions to create a sustainable and competitive infrastructure. When implementing the cluster development strategy for the tourism industry, emphasis should be placed on the application of socially responsible investment principles, as well as the creation of a sustainable and innovative management system capable of effectively responding to changing market conditions.
