Subject. This article discusses the role of cross-border cooperation between Russia and Mongolia in strengthening Russia's position in Asian countries.
Objectives. The article aims to analyze the differences between the border regions of Russia and Mongolia based on economic and demographic indicators, and identify the institutional foundations of cross-border cooperation between Russia and Mongolia.
Methods. For the study, I used a statistical analysis.
Results. The article finds that the Russian-Mongolian border area is characterized by the highest intensity of interregional connections across various sectors, however, high trade barriers (including hidden trade restrictions) and transportation costs hinder the deepening of Russian-Mongolian border cooperation.
Conclusions. The results of the study can be used by government authorities to formulate policies aimed at strengthening economic and trade relations between the regions of the Russian-Mongolian border.
