Subject. This article discusses the issues of industry cluster formation in the Russian economy and the development of single-industry towns.
Objectives. Based on an analysis of structural changes in the economy of the Kemerovo Oblast – Kuzbass and the Belovo Urban District, the article aims to identify industries (sectors) that are characterized by favorable conditions for developing and ensuring the competitiveness of the region.
Methods. For the study, we used a statistical analysis.
Results. Based on the analysis and assessment of structural changes in the economy of the Kemerovo Oblast – Kuzbass and the Belovo Urban District for 2017–2022, the article determines industries that can be a basis for the formation of new clusters complementing the coal industry, and this will improve the competitiveness of the region's economy.
Conclusions. The results obtained can help substantiate the trend towards positive changes in the post-industrial industry percentage in the structure of the economy of the Belovo single-industry town and Kuzbass region as a whole.
