Subject. The article addresses China's successes in the development of alternative energy. Objectives. The aim is to analyze measures to solve environmental problems relevant to China, assess prospects for the use of renewable energy sources in the country. Methods. The study draws on general scientific research methods. Results. I identified the main measures for the low-carbon economy development in China, including active rule-making, optimization of the energy structure of the economy, support for scientific research in the field of ecology, active use of "green" financial instruments and development of the carbon emissions trading market. Conclusions. China follows the global "climate agenda", tries to comply with global trends and at the same time maintains the specific nature of low-carbon development.
