Subject This article discusses the issues related to the current situation in the dairy industry of the Russian Federation, in particular, stagnation, low competitiveness of milk producers.
Objectives The article aims to learn the world's best practices of supporting milk producers and assess their applicability in the context of State support for dairy cattle breeding in the Russian Federation.
Methods For the study, we used an analysis technique, abstract-logical method, and the scholarly literature review method.
Results The article offers specific recommendations on improving the mechanism of State support for dairy cattle breeding in Russia in the face of budget deficit for government support of the industry.
Relevance International best practices of State support for dairy farming can be used by the Russian government agencies to develop policy programmes to support milk producers and structural modernization of the industry.
