Subject The article studies the inequalities of regions in labor productivity in the context of national economy and its economic sectors.
Objectives The main purposes of the study are the estimation of labor productivity in Russian regions (including sectoral labor productivity), a comparative analysis of labor productivity in some border and involved in cross-border relations with China regions of Siberia and the Far East, evaluation of the roles of regions in the context of national trends, estimation of interregional inequalities in distribution of these indicators.
Methods For the study, we used statistical methods, comparative methods, and spatial analysis by GIS technology.
Results Using the Gini index, we found that the greatest degree of inequality occurs in distribution of labor productivity in the mining sector. The lesser values of the Gini ratio are observed in manufacturing and construction. We demonstrate that gaps between regions increase in trade, construction and manufacturing. Due to the existence of geopolitical interests of the country, special attention is paid to the analysis of trends in labor productivity in border regions of Siberia and the Far East. We found that in most cases the labor productivity in these regions (including the main sectors of economy) is below the average one in the Russian Federation.
Conclusions and Relevance We concluded that in spite of the active participation in international relations with China, the place of the border regions of Siberia and the Far East in the formation of national trends is away from the leaders' positions.
