Importance The article considers the problems of development of the domestic industry and creation of new high-tech industries taking into account the evolving geopolitical situation in the world. Objectives The article aims to define and improve the working methods and mechanisms of State support for industry development in a regional perspective that can be locally implemented. Methods We used the methods of system analysis and synthesis, as well as program management and regulation methods. Results We developed strategic orientations for the development of the Orel oblast and the industry in the region. We propose certain methods and mechanisms of State support of development of the oblast's industry. We specify the terms of attracting investors in the oblast's new high-tech industries. Discussion The presented proposals were discussed at meetings of the regional association of employers TheUnion of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of the Orel Oblast on the development of industry in the oblast, as well as at the meeting of the Board of Managers of Industrial Enterprises of the Orel Oblast on the issue of formation of proposals relating to the development of measures of State support for industrial production, implemented in the framework of the State program of Development of the Industry of the Orel Oblast for 2015-2020. Conclusions To enhance the competitive ability of the Russian Federation in the world market, it is necessary to create conditions for extensive industrial innovative development of the country and regions, to solve a complex of tasks in strategic planning, economic support mechanisms, the backlog of administrative problems, and improve the targeting of public methods and mechanisms of the development of industry in the regions.
