Importance The article deals with the formation of the Arctic - Central Asia transport corridor aimed to provide a streamlined and clearly regulated pass flows of natural resources. Methods The paper analyzes the institutions of natural resources management in the Russian Federation and Republic of Kazakhstan as the most significant areas of the Arctic - Central Asia transport corridor, and identifies the most effective ways of their development. Results The paper identifies the most effective directions of development of environmental management institutions of the Russian Federation and Republic of Kazakhstan on the normative-legislative, investment and integration, scientific-methodological, educational, environmental and organizational levels of institutional support. Conclusions We concluded that the development of the institutions mentioned above is a necessary condition for the optimization of the institutional environment, which will provide the basis for intensification of economic development and environmental management in the territories involved in the transport corridor.
