Importance The article analyzes the performance of public sector programs of agro-industrial complex' development, as well as the use of elements of relationship marketing to increase the competitiveness of the agricultural sector of the economy of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic.
     Objectives
The goal of the article is to analyze the state of the competitiveness of the agro-industrial complex of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic in comparison with neighboring regions, as well as the opportunities and ways to implement the marketing approach to increase the efficiency of the industry within the framework of the concept of relationship marketing.
     Methods For the analysis, we used econometric methods, the index method, and average and relative magnitudes, as well as a system of indicators characterizing the economic activity of enterprises of the agro-industrial complex.
     Results We determined that the Karachay-Cherkess Republic has shown the steady development of agriculture over the past decade. This is due to the implementation of government programs of development. We also show serious long-term problems that can significantly reduce the effectiveness of the agrarian sector of economy and have a negative impact on the investment climate in the Republic, significantly affect the dynamics of the development of agricultural production, and have an impact on the balance of exports and imports. On the basis of the conducted analysis, we propose guidelines for improving the marketing activities of the agrarian enterprises and show the need for large-scale and local research, monitoring to detect latent needs, consumer preferences and market dynamics.
     Conclusions and Relevance We determined that the development of product policy must be more intensive to modify products and introduce new products to the market. The article will be useful for a wide range of practitioners, teachers and students.
