Importance The article deals with the problems of alcohol safety, which largely determines the future of the population: mental and physical health, employment potential, possibility of full participation in society. Objectives The purpose of the article is to define a system of indicators and methods of complex evaluation of the level of alcohol safety in the Vologda region as a community of its municipalities. Methods For the study, I used a k-means method, cluster analysis, as well as typological grouping of municipalities of the Vologda region. Results The paper provides a comprehensive assessment of threats and the level of alcohol safety within the region. I defined qualitatively homogeneous groups of municipalities, classified them by safety level, and assessed and characterized each particular group. Conclusions and Relevance I concluded that almost half of the areas of the Vologda region are challenged by high rates of sales and consumption of alcoholic beverages. I note that in rural areas, alcohol addiction among the population is a particularly acute problem, as a catalyst for such problems as unemployment, high rates of accidents and crime. I recommend certain actions that will ensure the proper level of alcohol security in the region.
