Importance The article considers the relationship of regional economics and economic theory and the role of these scientific disciplines in the creation of theoretical and methodological bases for the effective development of the Russian economy. The paper deals with the macroeconomic framework and models, among which there are several types of economic units: a macro-producer, a macro-consumer, a State, a group of foreign actors, and social institutions. In addition, I explored regional and municipal forms of business entities to improve the accuracy of macroeconomic models in economic reality. Objectives The goal of the paper is to justify the use of regional and municipal entities in the macroeconomic models, along with the traditional ones, reflecting the interrelationship and interdependence between economic theory and the regional economics. Methods For the study, I used system and institutional analyses, economic-statistical methods and modeling techniques of reproduction processes. Results I assessed the impact of different types of local self-government (Anglo-Saxon, mixed and continental) on the value of macroeconomic parameters. Accounting the regional and municipal factors in macro-level concepts will make significant changes in the system of national accounts that will fundamentally affect the level of economic practices. In addition, I paid considerable attention to the influence of different institutions on the functioning and development of regional socio-economic systems. Conclusions and Relevance I came to a conclusion that the theoretical analysis of the national economy allocation at the municipal level as an autonomous business entity should be only for those countries implementing the Anglo-Saxon and mixed models of local self-government. For the countries with the continental (French) model, the municipal level is part of the regional level.
