In the article from positions of centralization and fragmentation of economic space of the region the analysis of trajectories of social and economic development of the large, average and small cities of Stavropol area is carried out. The interrelation of rates of development with the sizes of city settlements is confirmed. Conceptual bases of interaction of the cities in the regional contact and gravitational environment are opened, and also the typological group of the cities of Stavropol area that allowed creating elements of the concept of their social and economic development is given.
