The article is focused on the activity of innovation zones in Dubna, St. Petersburg, Zelenograd, Tomsk, which are concentrated the most meaningful intellectual, technological, production and financial potential, for the establishment of regional innovation systems. The authors analyze shortcomings in development of the innovation zones, scientific cities and clusters in Russia, and make own suggestions to tide over the pitfalls and to spur social and economic prosperity of the regions.
