In the article characteristic features of development of retail trade in Russia are presented and need of state regulation of trade organizations because the trade organizations play a significant role in ensuring food security of the regions is proved. The assessment of the main tendencies of development of trade in the regions of Russia is carried out and the methods which application allowing to develop this type of economic activity are offered.
