Successful development of agro-industrial complex, it is emphasized in the article, is impossible without creation of the effective financial and credit infrastructure considering features of agricultural reproduction which important element is insurance. In the article the formation and development of institute of insurance in agriculture of Russia is considered. The characteristic to the allocated stages is given and the directions of development of agricultural insurance are offered.
