In the article the content of high-quality economic development is revealed; the factors constraining its providing (the export and raw mechanism of the economic growth, the narrowed reproduction and demographic crisis, weakness of institutes of development, etc.) are defined. The assessment of quality of economic development of the Mordovia Republic in 2006-2011 - the subject of the Russian Federation which on an index of economic weight treats the III group of regions - "middling persons" is carried out. The proposals on ensuring high-quality and effective economic development of the Republic of Mordovia are given.
